Two of the big boys which really deserve a comparison are the Hero Honda Karizma R and Bajaj Avenger. Both the bikes are a trademark of their own company and one of the best bets to prove one up over the other. The comparison is for the performance and appearance and these two bikes made us to neglect the categories they fall within.
The fuel tank and the front part of the Karizma R, give it a macho and huge look. The presence of the new age graphics make the bike that more alluring. The company has struck a good balance between the design and performance, so there is hardly any space to downplay the bike.
The Bajaj Avenger still looks a class apart even with the traditional spoke wheels. The high rising wind shield and the backseat for the pillion make the bike stand out quite easily. The side look of the bike with the black color gives it a vintage look.
The Hero Honda Karizma R has 223cc single cylinder, air-cooled, OHC, 4 stroke engine. The Karizma R dishes out a maximum power of 17 bhp at 7000 rpm and peak torque of 18.35 Nm at 6000 rpm. The bike has a very high performance when it comes to delivering the goods.
The Bajaj Avenger has a four stroke, single cylinder, Dts-i air cooled (with oil cooler) engine. The displacement of the bike is 220 cc. The Avenger produces a maximum power of 19.3 bhp and a high torque of 17.2 Nm at 7000 rpm. The acceleration of the Avenger is in no way secondary to the Karizma R.
As said, the Karizma R stands out by sheer performance. The bike delivers stupendous power and has good acceleration. It takes only 3.8 seconds to reach the 60 kmph mark for the bike. The millage of 40 kmpl sounds okay for the 150 kg bike in the city region. It increases by around 6 to 8 kms on highways.
The Avenger comes in a 14 liter fuel tank. There is a 3.5 liter usable reserve as well. But when it comes to fuel economy, the Avenger lacks behind than the Karizma R. The Avenger can manage a fuel economy of only 35 kmpl, certainly could have been better here.
The brakes used in the Karizma R are: the front wheel has dia 276 mm non-asbestos disc brake and for the rear wheel, there is the internal expanding shoe type with dia 130mm non-asbestos type brake.
As for the Avenger, the front brake is hydraulic operated disc brake of 260 mm dia and the rear brake is drum brake. The combination not only helps in decreasing the speed of the bike at an alarming rate, but also can bring the bike to a halt in lesser time.
As far as the suspension is concerned, the Karizma R sports telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers as the front suspension and for the rear, there is 5 step adjustable type hydraulic shock absorbers with swing arm.
The Bajaj Avenger has telescopic fork of 140 mm at the front and the triple rate spring shocker at the rear. The dynamic suspension makes your ride all the more comfortable.
For the Karizma R, there are attractive colors to choose from like the red, black, moon yellow and vibrant blue. The combination of the red strips with the black background gives a dashing look. The colors available for the Avenger are cocktail wine red, plasma blue, midnight black and mist grey silver.
