What a great feeling it might be for the BMW! The joy of reaching the 20, 00,000 mark in motorcycle production is a milestone in itself. This is what the company has proudly achieved. The vehicle to get the honor of being the 20,00,000th motorcycle was the R 1200 GS model.


The company is one of the select few, which is staring at 100 years of completion. The company has been going steady since 1923. There have been a lot of difficulties and troubles the company has faced all these years. The company has gone through a World War and seen many economical ups and downs.


However, in spite of all this, BMW has been successful in introducing trend setting bikes and highly advanced technology. BMW is a big name in the auto industry today. The bikes introduced by the company have been upgraded whenever necessary and they still continue to dominate the market as effectively as ever.


The company is 88 years old now. The two-millionth motorcycle was completely manufactured at the Berlin Spandau plant of the company. The Berlin Spandau has been up and running for 44 years now. It went operational in the year 1969. The bikes manufactured at this plant have been exported to as many as 130 countries around the world. This is a big achievement for the Berlin Spandau plant in itself.


There is no doubt that the manufacturing of the 20,00,000th bike brought along with itself its part of celebrations. Klaus Wowereit, who is the Governing Mayor of Berlin, was the special guest at the celebration party. There were some specially invited guests for the party as well along with the entire staff of the company. It was on 6 May, 2011 that the company officially manufactured the two-millionth motorcycle.


The special edition of the bike R 1200 GS was uncovered on the occasion. Stunt God Chris Pfeiffer, who recently visited India, was the special celebrity who unveiled the R 1200 GS.
